When life goes according to plan, it feels like we’re following GPS—clear, predictable, step-by-step directions. But sometimes, God tosses the GPS out the window and hands us a compass instead. No turn-by-turn guidance, just a general direction and an invitation to trust.

That’s exactly what happened to Lilly.

Her family was prepping for a cross-country move to Montana, answering a call to ministry. They’d already carefully mapped out their lives—three kids, homeschooling, support systems in place. And then came a surprise fourth pregnancy.

“It took me a long time to wrap my head around it,” she said. “We had told ourselves we were done... I just wrestled with a lot of doubt and worry.”

As they paused their move and pivoted their lives, new complications arose—first from a 20-week ultrasound, then from follow-up tests that pointed toward a possible Down syndrome diagnosis for baby Levi. What followed was a month of uncertainty, waiting, Googling, and battling the haunting “what ifs.”

“I was devastated,” Lilly shared honestly. “I had no idea what all of this would mean. You don’t plan for something like that. And there was this mourning that came with it.”

But even in the waiting, God was working. Through community at Time for Women, Lilly found herself surrounded by prayer and support. Women showed up with coffee, tears, and encouragement. “They didn’t always have advice, but they prayed—constantly. And I knew I wasn’t getting through that season on my own strength.”

Then came Levi’s birth—chaotic and full of its own detours. Emergency C-section. NICU stays. Surgery. But in the middle of it all: grace. No heart condition. No severe complications. Just a little boy who had Down syndrome and a whole lot of joy to bring.

“We always joke he’s the easiest baby we’ve ever had,” she laughed.

The life they’d planned may have been put on hold—but what God gave them instead was deeper peace, stronger family bonds, and a new way forward. “Levi’s name means ‘to be brought together,’ and that’s exactly what he did. Even before he was born, he drew us closer.”
